About the Pahrump Valley Main Street Project
Nevada Main Street Program: Launched in 2017 by the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED), with Pahrump being one of the latest additions. 

 

Purpose: The program aims to help rural areas in Nevada improve their downtown areas through funding, training, and strategic planning.

 

Key People Involved

Donna Corey: Assistant Executive Director of Southwest Central Regional Economic Development Authority (SWCREDA); instrumental in creating the local Main Street organization.

Karen McHale: Director of Pahrump Valley Main Street, with a background in real estate, accounting, and construction project management.

 

Other Board Members:

Roy Mankins: SWCREDA President

Chris Salute: Great Basin College Pahrump Director

Dr. Tom Waters: Community activist

Arlette Ledbetter: Town of Pahrump Tourism Director

Jaynee Reeves: Administrative Secretary for the county and town (liaison role)

 

Proposed Location

Designated Downtown Area: Stretch of Highway 160 from Calvada Blvd. to just past Basin Avenue.

 

Future Expansion:

Calvada Blvd.: From Highway 160 to Pahrump Valley Blvd. (potential arts district)

Highway 372: Includes businesses along this stretch.

 

Objectives and Initial Focus

Initial Projects: Focus on small beautification initiatives to improve the look and feel of the newly designated downtown area.

Project Planning: The board is currently in the process of selecting small projects, determining requirements, estimating costs, identifying involved parties (county, NDOT, private entities), and securing funding.

 

Funding Opportunities

Nevada Main Street Program: Offers funding, with $663,000 awarded in 2024 across various Main Street organizations in Nevada. McHale plans to apply for funds in the 2025 grant cycle.

 

Additional Grants: McHale intends to seek other grant opportunities beyond the Nevada Main Street program.
